Hard to explain this one. A talented and beautiful girl was taken too soon in a terrible car accident. Chelsi is the daughter of Bill and Lisa Petersen and granddaughter of Shep and Jeri Newby. They have been long time friends. She is the big sister to Shayli and Chaz. Chelsi excelled in track and cheer and was currently on the BYU track team. A star in the making, she was unstoppable in her determination to succeed. She also leaves behind her missionary and fellow BYU athlete (football) Elder James Lark serving an LDS mission in Russia. She has countless friends and relatives that are grieving her loss. How do you explain how her immediate family is doing? You just don't. No words. But we can say that they are moving forward and show a lot of love through the broken pieces of their hearts.
Chelsi's birthday is July 15th. She would have been 21. Lisa's group of lifelong best friends organized a wonderful event with a 5 K run/walk to get them past this first "hurdle". It was held on Chelsi's birthday in her neighborhood. Droves of people signed up and showed up to support this family... about 1000 people crowded the street where we looped around the neighborhood twice in the heat of the summer night at 10 p.m. It was a late night social hour with friends from one end of town to the other. Very touching. Her family was overwhelmed with the turnout. Happy Birthday Chelsi! We may not run as fast as you, but we sure had a good time!
